The Catholic Parliamentary Liaison Office (CPLO) together with the Scalabrini Centre of Cape Town organized an online seminar on Citizenship on Friday, 28th of August 2020. 

The Title of the webinar is: From Here – Recent developments in Citizenship + Statelessness provisions in South African law.

Speakers of the event are:

Liesl Muller, an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa and an expert in statelessness and nationality law. Liesl is also a founding member of the Southern African Nationality Network and the served as the Statelessness Programme at Lawyers for Human Rights. Liesl was the lead attorney on the recent Chisuse case in the Constitutional Court. Liesl will be speaking on the various routes to citizenship, the risk of statelessness, and recent litigation. www.citizenshiprightsinafrica.org www.sann.africa

Ben-Joop Venter is an Advocacy Officer at Scalabrini Centre of Cape Town. Ben has provided extensive assistance to many clients regarding citizenship applications and advice. Ben will be speaking on section 4(3) of the South African Citizenship Act specifically, including how our courts have interpreted it, and the impact that the draft Regulations may have on the implementation of provision.
