SIHMA | Scalabrini Institute For Human Mobility In Africa

Welcome on board to our new Remote Intern

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to our new remote intern, Abby Theut, from Michigan State University! As an Admin and Comms intern, Abby will be collaborating with our Cape Town office to effectively manage our social media pages as well as the Blog posts.  She joins the SIHMA team for the next 2 months and we hope that through her internship and engaging in the dissemination of migration-related research, she'll be more knowlegable about human mobility and how research can be used to inform policies that ensure the rights and dignity of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees in Africa.

Abby, our newest intern, grew up in Clarkston, Michigan and is now a fourth-year undergraduate student at Michigan State University in the United States. She is currently pursuing an English degree and after her graduation in the Spring of 2023, she plans to attend Law School somewhere in the United States. Though she is not entirely sure what type of law she wants to specialize in, she hopes this internship will allow her to gain the important experience needed to narrow down her choices. Her skills include being an excited learner, always putting her best foot forward both academically and professionally, easily working well with others, and useful writing and editing skills, which she will be using to contribute to SIHMA during her internship. In her spare time, Abby enjoys reading all genres of books, watching some of her favourite television shows or movies, going outdoors and getting exercise, and spending quality time with her friends and family. Abby is very passionate about human rights and learning more about issues happening in different regions across the globe, which is why she is eager to learn more about these problems through her remote internship with us, where she will be posting to SIHMA’s social media as well as blog posts.

We wish her a wonderful experience and we appreciate her passion and time dedicated to SIHMA’s activities.

Have a look at our Team page to meet the rest of the team and the Volunteer Program page to read testimonials of past volunteers.
