SIHMA | Scalabrini Institute For Human Mobility In Africa

Our Director in Kenya

The Executive director of SIHMA, Fr. Filippo, is in Nairobi, Kenya this week (February 17 to February 21). He first visited the African Migration and Development Policy Centre, AMADPOC and met with the Executive Director Dr. Linda Adhiambo Oucho, who is also one of the AHMR Journal's Editorial board member. AMADPOC aims to contribute to development initiatives through policy oriented research on migration related issues. Fr. Filippo and Dr. Oucho had the opportunity to discuss about common strategy plans in regards to research, projects and training courses as well as future events and conferences to organize in collaboration with SIHMA.

During his visit, Fr Filippo also visited the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops, which is a permanent institution and assembly of the Catholic Bishops in Kenya who together exercise their Pastoral offices. Here, Fr. Filippo had a meeting with the General Secretary Most Rev. Fr. Daniel Rovo and the Deputy General Secretary Fr. Lucas Onge'sa Manwa. In another occasion he also had the opportunity to meet Beatrice Odera, National Executive Secretary of the Catholic Justice & Peace Commission and Fr. Paul Igweta, co-ordinator of the Department of Integral Human Development of AMECEA. AMECEA is the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa, and it includes the Catholic Bishops Conferences of 10 Countries. With them it was possible to share and plan further research strategies, training courses and future activities.

One of the strengths of SIHMA is their positive collaboration with  many other partners, both on the African continent as well as globally. Creating network among these international organizations with a similar mission is important and determining to serve and accompany migrants and refugees at the best. In the next days, Fr. Filippo and our Project Manager, James Chapman are attending a workshop with one of our research partners.
