Welcome to Our New Researcher

SIHMA has the pleasure to announce the appointment of a new junior researcher, Muluh Momasoh, at SIHMA who started on Monday 19 April 2021. As SIHMA engages in research and publishes reports, working papers and briefs, our journal (AHMR[1]) and shorter researched blog posts in our Blog on the Move [2], we are excited to be bolstering our research capacity. SIHMA strives to fulfil our mission ‘to conduct and disseminate research that contributes to the understanding of human mobility and informs policies that ensure the rights and dignity of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees in Africa’[3] and Muluh’s appointment assists in this pursuit. We welcome Muluh and look forward to a long and productive working relationship. We also look forward to learning from one another and appreciate the richness of his experience and passion for research relating to people on the move.

 

Muluh is from a rural community in the North West Region of Cameroon. He has a Master's degree in Development Studies from the University of the Western Cape. He is currently doing his Ph.D. in the Department of Sociology at the University of Cape Town and has research and teaching interests around African migration, integration, social change, and policy formation. He lectured introduction to Sociology and Development Studies at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology for first and second-year students. He is very passionate about working with migrants and understanding the survival mechanisms and or strategies they use in their integration process within their host communities. Working with SIHMA, he desires to receive and provide insights and understanding on the challenges that confront migrants in their new spaces and make suggestions on policy options that can help bridge the gap between migrants and host community members. We are excited that Muluh has joined our team and look forward to the bright future ahead for him, for SIHMA and the SIHMA team [4] as a whole.
