Workshop on Advocacy and Development with Misean Cara
An interesting Workshop on Effective Development and Advocacy for System Strengthening took place at the Schoenstatt Retreat and Conference Centre, Constantia, Cape Town on 13th August 2019, organised by Misean Cara.
Misean Cara is an international and Irish faith-based missionary movement working with some of the most marginalised and vulnerable communities in developing countries. As part of their strategy to enable sharing of best practice, networking and collaboration, they invited different stakeholders involved in projects of development and advocacy in our area.
The workshop was co-facilitated by Andrea Cortemiglia, Misean Cara Development Mentor for Southern Africa, and Robert Mafinyori, SACBC-JPC Gender Justice Coordinator. It involved presentations, discussions and group work on critical aspects and practical tools for effective development and advocacy for system strengthening—all with a focus on human rights approach, missionary values and sustainable results. It was also an opportunity to meet and interact with a community of project managers involved in inspiring development and advocacy initiatives across the country.
Among the different participants, we had Don Bosco Delft Skills TC – Salesian Sister, Rural Development Support Program, Enkuthazweni Centre – Assumption Sister, Home of Hope – Viatores Christi, Healing of Memories – OFM, Missionvale Care Centre, Salesian Life Choices, Catholic Schools Office, CPLO, SIYP – Salesian of Don Bosco and SIHMA (Fr. Filippo Ferraro, Executive Director) and Scalabrini Centre, represented by the Director Miranda Madikane and Hylton Bergh, manager of Employment Access Programme.
We had an intersting and helpful exchange about the meaning of advocacy and his integration in planning and fundraising for projects of development in the African context, sharing knowledge and good practices, as well as different visions that enriched our learning and strenghtened our network.
